The MABAS Division 19 Cause and Origin Team (Team-19) is comprised of 22 State Certified fire investigators and 6 State Certified arson investigators from various departments within the MABAS 19 division. When any department within the MABAS Division 19 is stricken with a fire, the Incident Commander can request Team-19 through Orland Dispatch. Team-19 members will respond directly to the scene to assist the stricken department in the following areas:

1. Investigation of Cause and Origin of structure fires
2. Collection and processing of evidence
3. Interviewing witnesses
4. Scene photography

In 2002, Team-19 responded to 18 cause and origin requests ranging from single family residences to large commercial industrial buildings. The Team-19 averaged 6 investigators per incident.

Team-19 members are highly motivated and willing to work. The more the team is utilized, the better team becomes. There are quarterly team meeting/trainings held in January, April, July, and November at rotating locations within the division.

Training is conducted by team members or qualified outside agencies, depending on what the training topic is for that quarter.
